What will you be learning in this internship?
Day 1: Architecture Departments (AM) and Client Services (PM)
In the morning, interns will explore different areas of architecture, including design, construction, and urban planning. They will learn about specialised architectural firms and supporting disciplines. In the afternoon, interns will focus on client interaction, effective communication, understanding client needs, and fostering professional relationships. Interns will also explore the architectural design process, including concept development, schematic design, and project planning.
Day 2: Building & Construction (AM) and Interior Design (PM)
In the morning, interns will cover the basics of building and construction, focusing on creating detailed plans, preparing construction sites, and assembling buildings according to approved designs. In the afternoon, interns will explore interior design principles, including space planning, furniture selection, color schemes, and lighting.
Day 3: Urban Architecture (AM) and Landscape Architecture (PM)
In the morning, interns will learn about urban architecture, which focuses on designing and planning buildings and spaces in urban environments. Key topics will include urban planning, mixed-use development, sustainability, and public spaces. In the afternoon, interns will study landscape architecture, covering the design, planning, and management of outdoor spaces like gardens.
Day 4: Green Architecture (AM) and Structural Design (PM)
In the morning, interns will study green architecture, a sustainable approach to designing and building that aims to reduce environmental harm. In the afternoon, interns will focus on structural design, which involves creating the framework of buildings to ensure safety, stability, and durability.
Day 5: Reflection (AM) and Final Assessment (PM)
In the morning, interns will reflect on their experiences throughout the internship, selecting one specialisation that interests them the most and writing a 300-word reflection on its significance in architecture. In the afternoon, interns will complete a final assessment quiz with 25 multiple-choice questions covering all topics from the internship. A pass mark of 80% is required, with opportunities for retakes if necessary.
Certification
This internship meets international standards to reflect the diverse landscape of architecture as a global discipline. Upon successful completion, interns will receive a certificate of participation as proof of their internship.
